Bored Peach Club, Gozo, Malta

A residency exploring heritage, observation and everyday life on the island of Gozo.

Vic was offered the opportunity to a residence in Gozo, Malta at the Bored Peach Club. Vics father was Maltese and this residence felt like revisiting his childhood but as an established artist. The first week Vic was there, one of the biggest Festas on the island was being organised, Maria and Bambino Festival. A week of religious celebrations that transformed Xaghra, the town Bored Peach was established in. Huge parades, music, fireworks, brass bands and street decorations adorned the town.

Vics time was spent meeting local artisans and craft makers, painting portraits during the residence. He journaled his stay in a visual diary and painted a tongue in cheek mural featuring statues of angels that filled the town square with iconic words by Peter Fonda from the hells angels film Easy Rider - We wanna be free.

During the residency, Vic also held a workshop for 20 people at the Bored Peach Club, showing how to draw scrollwork and filigree using leaves as templates.
