Farindola International Artist Festival, Italy

A residency exploring portraiture, community and the slower rhythms of village life.

The Farindola International Artist Festival,is held once a year in the small mountainside village of Farindola, Abruzzo, Italy. As part of the three week residency, the town celebrates Pecorini e Pecorino, the local wine and cheese from the area. During this time, eleven artists from around the World are invited to participate, create and become part of the local, community of just 1500 people. Vic lived, worked and socialised with all the artists everyday, sharing stories, disciplines and common interests.

During the time he was there, he was in the middle of making the Human Jam series of 365 portraits and stories. Vic continued this body of work, painting local people from the village as well as some of the other artists on the residency every day to continue the collection.

The pace of life left an indelible mark on Vic and on his return, found his thoughts were more together, simpler and studied in his approach. The Human Jam series of 21 portraits created in Farindola have a presence of their own in the final collection.
